Windows 2008 OEM Server virtualised and upgraded to Windows 2008 R2 Volume License
Aug 29th
An interesting issue where a client was running brand new servers and wished to duplicate his setup into a virtual environment for development. Easy process was to run VMware Convertor and convert from LIVE system to a VMServer image. Then boot up the virtual machine, Windows says hardware diffferent and requires activation again. At this point we do not activate but insert the 2008 R2 Server disk into the drive and once inserted run the setup to do an upgrade over the top. At the end it will ask to reboot and the say you need to activate it. Type in the Volume License key and activcate. The whole process shouldnt tak elong at all. Once you have activated the server you will be able to continue with a replica licensed for Volume Licensing for development.
